How Much Should a Small Business Website Actually Cost?

Quotes for a small business website range from $500 to $25,000 — and none of them tell you what you're actually getting. Here's how to read a quote like a local business owner, not a developer.

How Much Should a Small Business Website Actually Cost?

If you've asked three different companies what a website costs, you've probably gotten three wildly different answers. That's not because anyone is lying to you. It's because "a website" can mean a hundred different things.

Here's the short version: a clean, professional small business website in Middle Tennessee should cost somewhere between $800 and $3,500 as a one-time build, plus a small monthly amount for hosting and care. Anything dramatically cheaper usually means you're doing the work yourself. Anything dramatically more expensive usually means you're paying for things your business doesn't need yet.

What you're actually paying for

When you pay for a website, you're really paying for four separate things. Knowing which is which is how you compare quotes fairly.

  • Strategy and structure. Deciding what pages you need, what goes on each one, and what you want a visitor to do next.
  • Design. How it looks and feels — the part everyone thinks of first, but only about a third of the work.
  • Build. Turning that design into a real, working site that loads quickly on a phone.
  • Launch and support. Domain setup, hosting, forms, email, and someone to call when something breaks.

A $500 quote usually covers design and build only. You're on your own for the rest.

The three questions to ask before you sign

The cheapest website is the one you have to rebuild in eighteen months because it never brought you customers.

1. Who owns the site when we're done? You should own your domain, your content, and your design files. Get this in writing.

2. What happens after launch? Every website needs updates, security checks, and small edits. Ask what that costs per month and what's included.

3. How many rounds of revisions? Two rounds is standard. Unlimited is a red flag, because it usually means nobody is steering the project toward a finish line.

What we do at Radiant Marketing

We keep it deliberately simple. It's $199 per page as a one-time setup, and that includes design, layout, copy organization, and the full build-out. Then it's $97 a month for the Website Care Plan — hosting, security checks, backups, basic edits, and support from a real person.

For most small businesses here, that means a three-page site and a year of care lands under $1,000 to start. No surprise invoices, no upsells you didn't ask for.

A quick gut check

If a quote feels confusing, it probably is. You should be able to explain your website's price to your spouse in one sentence. If you can't, keep asking questions until you can — or book a call and we'll walk through it with you, no pressure.
